Waiting for the little, big stuff

The following words are from a partly overheard conversation – “I just wish they’d get on with the little, big stuff”. I didn’t hear the response but the words struck a chord.

The big unknown for an increasing number of people is learning to cope with an increasingly uncertain future. Whilst it’s the done thing to cope and soldier on, stiff upper lip and all, after a while it becomes mentally exhausting and starts affecting people’s wellbeing.

Devaluing friction

Use words like ‘disruptor’ or ‘activist’ when talking about organisational development or business change and there will probably be a few eyebrows raised.

“Disruption! – we’ll have none of that round here thank you kindly, even though things need to change”

Well it’s been a year since seeing the sun go the other way across the sky showed me that being prepared to see things differently can make a huge difference to how we interact with others. 

Another penny dropped whilst on my travels about how what we value might be perceived as different to what others value or see, even when it’s the same thing. Similarly, that how we demonstrate what we value can say a lot about us.

Meaning of us

IMG_20130405_082043I’ve been thinking a fair bit about what my role is in the big scheme of things, in and around the increasing network of networks I move between or in which there may be an expectation I should be part of. Also what value I bring, and who for. And it seems from recent chats, over coffee or online, I’m not alone in this. More people seem to be questioning the purpose of various aspects of what they are doing and how they are expected to do things differently, move to a next stage or in what is happening around them. It may be changes at work, adapting to new phases of family life, even down to things like changing seasons, or not as it seems these days.
